THE EUROPEAN UNION |
The European Union is an economic and political partnership between 28 democratic European countries . It is made up of different countries who speak various languages and have different cultures and traditions but it is built around a consensus of unity, peace and prosperity. Ireland is a member of The European Union, and our currency is the euro which means that we are a part of the Eurozone which is comprised of 19 countries (Delaney 2010).
Ireland joined The EU in 1973 and our membership has many benefits for us as a country as it means that we receive funding and support from The EU which has a positive effect on our economy. As members of The EU we also benefit in the area of International Trade as we have access to newer and larger markets who share our currency, but we also have access to produce and services throughout the EU at a much cheaper price due to the fact there are a fewer currency exchange rates and fluctuations when dealing with other states within the Eurozone (Roche & Cusack 2011, p.197-198)
